Red, White, Black, Mark Rothko
Red, White, Black, Mark Rothko
Oil on canvas.
Mark Rothko (1903-1970) completely revolutionized abstract painting, describing his work as "a consummated experience between picture and onlooker. Nothing should stand between my painting and the viewer." He belonged to the movement of American painters known as the Abstract Expressionists, a group also known as the New York School.
